Match Results

NEWBURGH, N.Y.
- Trailing 2-1 after the doubles play, the Mount Saint Mary College men's tennis team rallied to win four of the six singles matches and captured a 5-4 victory over Baptist Bible College on a frigid Friday night in Cronomer Park.  The Knights improved to 1-1 on the season.

With the match tied at three-all, the final three singles matches all went to three sets.  Senior Brian Cangemi (East Northport, N.Y.) rallied from a first set deficit to win his match as fifth singles, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.  At second singles, senior Ian Jackson (Washington, N.J.) also try to dig out of a first set hole, but came up just short, falling 4-6, 6-3, and 7-5.

Now with the score tied at four-all, senior John Como (Wingdale, N.Y.) was the only man left standing.  Como raced out to a 5-2 advantage in the final set, but allowed his opponent to crawl back into the match at 5-5.  The senior held serve to make it 6-5 and then finally capitalized on his fourth match point to give the Knights the victory.  Como won 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.

Also coming through for the Knights in a close match was freshman Kevin Ryan (West Islip, N.Y.).  Ryan prevailed, 11-9, in a first set tiebreaker and then closed out the match in the second set, 6-4.  Senior Matt D'Angelico (Shelton, Conn.) rounded out the lineup with an impressive victory at sixth singles.  D'Angelico was dominant in the second set, rolling to a 6-3, 6-1 win.

Jackson and Ryan teamed to capture the only doubles point for Mount Saint Mary, taking an 8-3 decision at first doubles.

Up next for Mount Saint Mary is their Skyline Conference opener.  The Knights will travel to Bard College on Tuesday, March 30 for a 6:00 p.m. start.
