Mount Sweeps Saturday Swimming

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – It was an impressive Saturday of swimming for Mount Saint Mary College as the men's and women's teams swept a pair of meets. On the men's side, the Blue Knights defeated Regis College, 101-62, while on the women's side, the Blue Knights edged Regis College (61-34) and St. Joseph's College (69-26).

Junior Brian Heitman (Ramsey, N.J.) and sophomore Enrique Naudy (Monroe, N.Y.) were triple winners on the men's side. Heitman took the 50 freestyle (24.60), the 500 freestyle (5:30.38), and then just touched out his opponent in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.42. Naudy ran away with the 200 freestyle (1:53.30) and cruised to a victory in the 100 backstroke (1:00.42). In the 100 freestyle, Naudy finished two one-hundredths shy of breaking his own school record with a time of 48.86.

On the women's side, freshmen Brianna Perazella (Cheshire, Conn.) and Jamie Testa (Prospect, Conn.) each won a pair of events. Perazella won the 1000 freestyle in 11:49.54 and then clinched the meet for the Blue Knights with a victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.61). Testa dominated the field in the 50 freestyle (28.53) and then eased to a win in the 100 butterfly (1:07.62).

Senior Stephen Ghostlaw (New Windsor, N.Y.) was also an individual event winner on the men's side. The senior took home the 1000 freestyle in 11:44.90.

Closing out the meet, the relay team of sophomore Sarah Pruschki (Walden, N.Y.), freshman Rachel Johnson (Levittown, N.Y.), junior Shannon McNally (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), and sophomore Christina Figueroa (New Windsor, N.Y.) won the 200 freestyle relay in 2:01.15. They edged the team from Regis by a second.

The Blue Knights return to action next week with three meets.
