Swimming Hosts Elms College

NEWBURGH, NY – During a dual meet with Elms College on Saturday, the Mount Saint Mary College women's swimming team earned a 99-86 victory while the men's team dropped a 105-98 decision. The women are now 3-3 overall and the men are 3-1.

Sophomore Christina Gulotta (Howell, N.J.) was the star for the women, having a hand in three first place finishes for the Mount. To open the meet, Gulotta anchored the 200 medley relay that finished in 2:14.49 and finished just ahead of the Elms relay. Individually, Gulotta placed first in the 200 freestyle (2:21.61) and the 200 individual medley (2:42.73).

Also wining individual events on the women's side were freshman Laura Condon (Syracuse, N.Y.) and junior Annie Parodi (Warwick, N.Y.). Condon took home first place points in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:20.27 while Parodi blew past the field in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:15.92.

Senior Thomas DiLeo (Newburgh, N.Y.) won three individual events on the men's side. The senior opened the meet with a victory in the 1000 freestyle (11:17.88) and then also posted wins in the 200 butterfly (2:13.86) and the 500 freestyle (5:33.62).

Freshman Kevin Wallace (Middletown, Conn.) earned two first place finishes and one second place finish to complement DiLeo. Wallace won the 200 freestyle in 2:01.37 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.93. He was second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.18.

Rounding out the individual event winners, sophomore Brian Heitman (Ramsey, N.J.) won the 200 individual medley in 2:22.81.

The men's swim team has just one day off before returning to action. They'll travel to Regis College on Monday for a meet at 1:00 p.m. The women pick back up on Wednesday, January 14 when they travel to Hunter College for a 6:00 p.m. start.
