MADISON, N.J. – Freshman midfielder
Hannah Pascual (Freeport, N.Y.) provided the game-winner header in the 71st minute, as the Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team defeated Rutgers-Camden in its first matchup of the Drew Fall Festival, hosted by Drew University, on Saturday. The Knights improve to 3-2 on the year, while Rutgers-Camden drops to 1-2.
Pascual capitalized on a free-kick cross that was knocked away from the net by the keeper. Pascual was placed perfectly, as she was able to head the deflection into a wide open net to put the Knights up by the eventual winning score of 2-1.
Sophomore midfielder
Jessica Lanning (Hicksville, N.Y.) kicked off the comeback in the 63rd minute by tying the game off a rebound from the top-right corner of the box. The Knights had previously trailed, 1-0, after Kelly Barbone netted a goal in the 20th minute for the Scarlet Raptors.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) made three saves to improve to 3-2 overall on the season. Scarlet Raptors netminder Liz DiCamillo made four stops, but yielded a pair of goals to take the loss.
The Knights fired off 11 shots in Saturday's win, while the Scarlet Raptors managed just seven. In a game with just three corner kicks, Rutgers-Camden was able to earn two of them.
The Knights will conclude their trip to the Drew Fall Festival on Sunday, Sept. 13, when they take on Stockton University at 2:30 p.m.
