Murphy-Goldberg Named Rookie of the Year; Searle, Giordano All-Conference

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College freshman Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg (Newburgh, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year in the year-end women's tennis awards. Sophomore Lindsay Searle (Unionville, Conn.) joined Murphy-Goldberg on the all-conference first team while senior Caitlin Giordano (Walden, N.Y.) was named to the second team.

Murphy-Goldberg, playing the top spot in the lineup for the Blue Knights, posted a record of 15-1 in dual match singles play. She was also 15-1 at first doubles while teaming with three different players. At the ITA Northeast Regional Championship, the rookie won her opening round match before putting in a strong showing against an eventual tournament semifinalist. Murphy-Goldberg was also named the Skyline Conference Championship MVP. She dropped just three games in two singles matches during the tournament and posted a pair of doubles wins.

Searle, also a first team member in 2008, posted a singles record of 15-2. The junior rolled to two singles wins during the Skyline Conference tournament and was dominant in defeating Bard's number two player in the championship match. Searle finished with a record of 9-2 in doubles play, pairing with three different partners during the season.

Giordano, a senior, made her third appearance on the Skyline Conference second team. She posted a record of 9-2 in singles play and was leading both of her matches during the Skyline tournament. The senior also racked up 14 doubles wins against just one loss.

Head coach Lorraine Brady (Goshen, N.Y.) was honored as the Skyline Conference coach of the year, her third such honor in eight years of coaching. Brady collected the 100th victory of her coaching career with the championship victory over Bard on October 30.

For the second time in three years, the Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team captured the Skyline Conference championship and completed an undefeated fall season at 17-0. The Blue Knights earned the Skyline Conference's first-ever automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III women's tennis tournament and will compete at the tournament in May.
