WEST POINT, N.Y. – Behind yet another strong effort in doubles, the Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team defeated Purchase College, 5-0, in a Skyline Conference tournament semifinal match on Saturday. The Blue Knights improved to 16-0 on the season and will play in their third consecutive Skyline championship match.
At first doubles, the duo of freshman
Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg (Newburgh, N.Y.) and sophomore
Annmarie Llewellyn (Brookhaven, N.Y.) dominated in an 8-1 victory. Juniors
Rebecca Schwartz (New Windsor, N.Y.) and
Lindsay Searle (Unionville, Conn.) controlled the match at second doubles, eventually prevailing 8-1. Freshmen
Emily Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) and Jennifer Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) teamed for an 8-4 win at third doubles.
The Blue Knights wasted no time in closing out the match, taking points at first and second singles. Murphy-Goldberg made quick work of her opponent at number one, winning 6-0, 6-1. Searle clinched the team victory with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at second singles. Schwartz, Giordano, and
Emily Gregory were all leading in their singles matches when the match was clinched.
Mount Saint Mary will play Bard College in the championship at a date, time, and location to be determined.
