PURCHASE, NY – The Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team played late into the night on Monday to earn a 7-2 victory over Purchase College. The Blue Knights improved to 12-0 overall and to 4-0 inside the conference.
Mount Saint Mary took two of the three doubles matches, setting themselves up nicely for the singles competition. Freshman
Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg (Newburgh, N.Y.) and sophomore
Annmarie Llewellyn (Brookhaven, N.Y.) continued their strong play in an 8-2 win at first doubles. Freshmen
Emily Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) and Jennifer Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) battled for an 8-4 victory at third doubles to give the Mount a 2-1 lead.
Murphy-Goldberg kicked things off at the top of the lineup with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Junior
Lindsay Searle (Unionville, Conn.) took out her opponent at second singles, 6-3, 6-0. Senior
Caitlin Giordano (Newburgh, N.Y.) was dominant in a 6-1, 6-0 match at fourth singles. Jennifer Gregory took a third set super tiebreaker (7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 10-4) at fifth singles and
Emily Gregory rolled to a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at sixth.
Mount Saint Mary travels to the Sage Colleges on Saturday, October 17 for their next match. The match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Troy, New York.
